Recently, summersets, the duo of Kalle Mattson and his childhood friend and long-time bandmate Andrew Sowka, shared the new single, “Move Back Home”. Today, they return with another new track, “If You Were A Stranger”. “Since 2021 I’ve taught songwriting in the music department at Carleton University,” says Mattson. “Teaching at any level was certainly not something I ever thought I would do, but in teaching songwriting, it’s opened up a lot more areas in my own writing (what’s the saying ‘the best way to learn is to teach’? I think they also say ‘those that can’t do, teach’ but whatever). Every songwriter I know admires John Prine, but only until you try and write like him do you realize how hard it is to be genuine and funny all at once. ‘If You Were A Stranger’ was my attempt at writing a genuine love song for my partner (with a splash of humour), and I think it features some great understated playing from Jim Bryson, Christine Bougie, and Peter Von Althen, one of our favourites.”

Previous single “Move Back Home” is about “the housing crisis in Canada, and specifically how our generation (millennials) have had to settle for a life that looks markedly different from the ones our parents led,” says Mattson. “The characters in the song are a composite of so many of our friends in their early 30s who are moving back to our hometown (Sault Ste. Marie, ON), after living in larger cities, because “moving back home” is their only real option of ever owning a home or starting a family. I’ve made peace that I will probably never own a home, what was an option for previous generations is not one for me, but I wanted to put that reality into a song where the characters are ‘settling’ and ‘settling down’, both for each other and in the larger context of their lives.”

The latest single ahead of Tiga's upcoming album HOTLIFE, “SILK SCARF” finds the Hardcore Storyteller reaching effortlessly into his bottomless bag of music, only to find new friends waiting for him inside. When Tiga formed a friendship with the renowned New York City band Fcukers - after both artists played Madison Square Garden on a cold winter night, shared some giggles in the greenroom, and created lasting memories at a now-legendary afterparty in Brooklyn - the spark for “SILK SCARF” was born.

"This one’s tricky to talk about because it’s based on a fantasy genre I may or may not have invented. I knew I needed a fearless collaborator to bring it to life, and Fcukers were the only choice. Met them, loved them, called them. True story - please don’t repeat to anyone," says Tiga on working with the rising EDM band. “Their spirit reminds me of the Electroclash Summer of Love (Y2K - present),” says Tiga. "You think we cared about genre boundaries? Think again.”

Once he got over their name, which deliberately misspells a curse word, Tiga engaged the white-hot NYC band in a collaboration that quickly took on a life of its own. What ensued was a writing process conducted with a creative energy and kinship that transcends eras. The result is “SILK SCARF” - a dance record that takes easy categorization and defies the heck out of it. “If a weird record is good enough, it stops being weird and just becomes a party record,” explains Tiga. “And if you’re not here to party, then why don’t you go do some homework and get the funk out of my face?”

Following the long-awaited “ECSTASY SURROUNDS ME”, “SILK SCARF” serves as the second pre-release single from HOTLIFE, Tiga’s first album in a decade. Scheduled for April 17, 2026 as a collaborative release via Montreal’s Turbo Recordings and Secret City Records, the project will also contain features from Boys Noize, Maara, and MRD.

MORE ABOUT TIGA
Tiga, born in Montreal, is a globally renowned DJ, producer, and the creative force behind Turbo Recordings. His journey began in the vibrant chaos of the 1980s Indian club scene, where he developed a deep appreciation for electronic music’s transformative power. Returning to Montreal in the early 1990s, Tiga pioneered a new wave of nightlife, introducing innovative party concepts, guest DJs, and Montreal’s first rave, “Solstice” in 1993. His relentless pursuit of musical excellence saw him co-founding the legendary nightclub Sona, creating a sanctuary for bold, cutting-edge dance music, while his label Turbo Recordings became a launchpad for numerous iconic releases in electronic music from legends such as Chromeo, Azari & III, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont, ANNA, and Charlotte de Witte.

There’s always been a fertile creative tension at the heart of Tiga’s music: on the one hand he’s the underground techno don, on the other, there’s a pop sensibility that enables him to write great songs. It’s this duality that makes him one of electronic music’s most engaging characters. He’s about as far from your faceless techno DJ as it’s possible to get.

As a producer, Tiga achieved global recognition with his chart-topping cover of “Sunglasses at Night”, a collaboration with Zyntherius, which became an anthem for electro enthusiasts. His remix credits include high-profile artists such as The xx, LCD Soundsystem, Moby, Depeche Mode, and Justice, solidifying his reputation as a master of reinvention. Tiga’s contribution to the prestigious DJ Kicks series showcased his eclectic style, while his original works, including the hit single “Pleasure from the Bass”, cemented his place in the pantheon of electronic music.

With his infectious creativity and a career spanning decades, Tiga continues to captivate audiences worldwide, shaping the sound of modern club culture. All the while, Tiga has toured the world extensively, playing legendary festivals and nightclubs such as Coachella, Sónar Festival, Berghain, Stereo Montreal, and Tomorrowland.

MORE ABOUT FCUKERS
If the protagonist of Daft Punks ‘Da Funk’ was walking around the streets of New York City today there’d be one thing playing on his boombox and it’d be three piece Fcukers. Whilst on his journey throughout the Lower East Side he’d probably end up running into members of the band working nightlife jobs as DJs, throwing parties in local bars and restaurants or simply finding the frequency of Manhattan’s beat and locking in.

Fronted by the energetic and enigmatic Shanny Wise (previously of The Shacks) and backed by producer/night life DJ Jackson Walker Lewis. Fcukers have discovered their own new frequency where a history of playing together and in other projects has led them to syncing on a singular vision built around 90s/00s house music, tasteful trip hop, big beat, indie rock and everything in between.

DANA SIPOS SHARES “STRANGE TO MY MIND” FROM UPCOMING ALBUM

Photo Credit : Christopher Wahl // DOWNLOAD HIGH-RES

Today, Dana Sipos is sharing another new track from her upcoming album, Golden Molten, out January 23, 2026. Following singles “Star City”, “Soft Feeling”, and “Songs Of Longing”, the acclaimed songwriter is unveiling “Strange To My Mind”.

“After periods of transformation, we are often unrecognizable to ourselves and we have to learn to see ourselves again,” says Sipos. “Sometimes close communities shift and fall apart and the world around us and at large is an utterly heartbreaking place. ‘Strange To My Mind’ is a meditation on the mysteries of being alive, that are sometimes humming quietly under the surface and sometimes a roar and a huge paradigm shift or life-altering course. I wanted to weave gratitude into this process of peering through the looking glass as a reminder to use this tool while sitting with uncertainty and change, to remember that the beauty and joy has to find a way to walk alongside the pain. I am also expressing gratitude for having music and song as a way of processing all of these complexities. Ultimately, I see this song as my reverence for the strangeness of life, for this holy and beautiful thing!”

MORE ABOUT GOLDEN MOLTEN
Known for songwriting that is both intimate and otherworldly, Sipos creates spellbinding atmospheres for listeners to lose themselves in. Celebrated for songs that hold the complexity of the human experience up to the light, Sipos' anticipated new album is her most personal and luminous work to date. Exploring themes of impermanence and the pressurized process of metamorphosis, the 9 songs on Golden Molten stay grounded in the poetic introspection reminiscent of Dana’s albums and include experimental textures, stacked vocal harmonies and 70s inspired groove. It is a family of songs that feels both immediate and timeless.

The album was forged through long seasons of transformation. In the post-Covid years leading up to its creation, Sipos navigated a cancer diagnosis and treatment, the death of her step-father, love followed by the long tail of heartbreak, the formation and eventual fracturing of a close circle and the recalibration of life’s dreams. Each song’s beginning carried its own endings over the course of their writing, while the sands of each trial shifted underfoot with life’s strange and constant movement. As a result, these songs carry traces of the living memory of their unfolding with, as always, a nod towards the cosmic.

Once again teaming up with contemporary producer Sandro Perri, Sipos and her talented studio band decamped to Union Sound in Toronto for a marathon one day rehearsal, two day recording session. Tracked mostly live off the floor, the compressed time frame built an intensity in the room that supported a real collaborative effort. Dana and the band responded to each other instinctively, the trust built up over their years of creating albums together, and didn’t overthink choices. Sipos’ evocative voice and vivid lyricism are supported by the band with sometimes spacious, often textural and always deliberate arrangements steered by the light touch of Perri's brilliant guidance. "We were short on time due to some extenuating recording circumstances, one after another. The studio can often be a bit vulnerable but the timing element added an emotional intensity to the experience, at least for me, that I think ultimately charged up the songs" reflects Sipos. "There were some very fun moments of course and those "studio magic moments," but it was unexpectedly emotional as well." As a result, the songs that make up Golden Molten are fully present are unguarded.

Golden Molten confirms Sipos as a singular presence in contemporary folk music—a deeply reflective artist attuned to both the fragility and resilience of the human experience. Writing that honours time and her travellers, and holds in her hands the many faces of loss and change. This is not a record rushed into the world, but with its slow burn and soft glow, Golden Molten reminds us that transformations are rarely instantaneous—but slowly shaped by the heat of life until they take on a new shape.

Recently, on CBC Q, Sipos and guest host Garvia Bailey discussed previous single “Soft Feeling” and more, listen to their conversation HERE.
