KATIE TUPPER NAMED SPOTIFY CANADA’S RADAR ARTIST OF THE MONTH FOR JANUARY

“In somewhat understated fashion, soulful Saskatoon-born singer-songwriter Katie Tupper has earned over 22 million streams worldwide, all before releasing a full-length debut record.” BILLBOARD CANADA

“...the record is a celebration of soul, indie, and alternative R&B.” THE NEEDLE DROP

“Although soul and R&B lovers will latch on to Tupper’s songs with ease, country/folk fans and those who simply appreciate incisive lyricism will appreciate the nods to her Prairie upbringing, too. With no skips, there’s something for everyone.” CBC MUSIC

“Having the voice is one thing, but the neo-soul singer-songwriter also very much has the pen.” EXCLAIM!

“If 2026 is the year that soul as shapeshifting as this breaks through, Tupper might just be its first true marker.” RANGE

“The album blends her aesthete R&B stylings with hints of plaintive folk confessionalism, delicate guitars, and strings…” UNDER THE RADAR

“In a world saturated with AI, explosive drum and bass drops, and vocals polished to oblivion with auto-tune, there’s still a light cutting through the noise. That light? Katie Tupper’s

smoky, soulful alto.” EARMILK

Today, Katie Tupper releases her debut album Greyhound via Arts & Crafts. The record is about the instinct to chase–fleeting desires, guaranteed mistakes, the feeling of home, love in all its shapes and forms. It’s already knowing the ending but letting it unfold anyway. Often receiving comparisons to Olivia Dean and Charlotte Day Wilson, Tupper’s smoky alto voice wraps together soul, indie and alternative R&B with just a touch of folky twang. Born in Saskatoon, Greyhound will bring the prairie roots of Tupper’s past to meet the blended and expanded worldview of her present.

Tupper contextualizes her debut body of work in saying, “Greyhounds that race on tracks are given these parameters and rabbit decoys to chase that are unreachable. If the front/fastest dog gets close to the decoy it just speeds up to make them run faster. The dogs think they are chasing something reachable but by design it will always be slightly ahead of them. It made me think about my relationships and how I act in the world. I am often both the Greyhound and the decoy — chasing something unreachable and being the thing that cannot be caught.”

It’s this duality – the fast and slow, the hard and soft, deep and delicate–that shapes the journey of Greyhound. This record is a homecoming, a return to her roots with years of new experience. It embraces the expanse of the endless sky and the light of the golden fields with an undercurrent of the sidewalks and skylines she’s spent years calling home.

Album standout track "Disappear" arrives today with an official live video. Simply her voice and a piano, the live video shows the elegant force within Tupper. On the album version, Jordan Rakei and Rachel Bobbitt lent their vocal talents to the slow-burning, soft ballad. Tupper shared, “I wrote this song about a relationship I was in that was progressing way faster than I felt comfortable. I didn’t speak up for myself because I was worried I would hurt this person's feelings and as a result I could feel myself quietly shrinking over the course of it.”

MORE ABOUT GREYHOUND
Greyhound was produced with her touring partners and frequent collaborators Justice Der (Rachel Bobbitt, Dylan Sinclair) and Felix Fox (BADBADNOTGOOD). Regarding working with them, Tupper says, “Everything they created was so exciting and interesting to me that the whole album sound appeared in front of us within our first few sessions. They were my inspiration to push my sound and to explore a corner of R&B that blends soul and heavy drum and bass with delicate guitars and strings.”

Reflecting on the album as a whole, she said, “This batch of songwriting discusses difficult things but from a lens of maturity. I want listeners to feel like they're not alone when challenging things come up. I want there to be a sense of calm and an opportunity to slow down while listening. When people read my lyrics and take away a message I want it to be one that is nuanced and that is empathetic. I think often pop music can be very polarized and harmful. I want my music to encourage people to take care of themselves and those around them by understanding that as people, we are always the greyhound and the decoy.”

All before releasing a debut record, its singles amassed over 4.5 million streams and over 40 million views across social platforms. Tupper has previously received a JUNO Award nomination for Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. Additionally, Spotify's RADAR Canada program has named Tupper their artist of the month and Apple Music highlighted her in their UP NEXT Artist Canada program.

Kicking off in April, Tupper will embark on a headline world tour. Making stops across Europe, the US and Canada, Greyhound will take on a new form for audiences across the globe. Ticket on-sale info once available. See all tour dates here and below.

“Over the course of their 20-plus-year career, the New Pornographers have often specialized in catchy ambiguity. If leader Carl Newman was just a machine cranking out power-pop tunes, it would get boring. But there’s also a lot of mixed emotions going on under the surface of their studiously nuanced pop-rock formalism—like if Cheap Trick was as quick-witted as Steely Dan, or the Romantics were as thoughtful as R.E.M.” - Rolling Stone

“pure, blissfully irresistible power pop” - NPR Music

The New Pornographers’ highly anticipated new album, The Former Site Of, is due March 27, 2026 on Merge Records; in celebration of the upcoming release the band is debuting the album track “Votive” alongside a new video.

The record is available for pre-order now via both the Merge and band’s webstore; find the exclusive “Mai Tai” LP variant HERE and the exclusive “Spilled Ink” LP variant HERE

Built around the sound of frontperson A.C. Newman’s mandolin, “Votive” builds from an atmospheric synth and keyboard opening into a wide-open jam. The video, animated by Michael Arthur, draws on the imagery of Newman’s lyrics alongside his and keyboardist/vocalist Kathryn Calder’s hooky refrain, “I didn’t see you there.”

MORE ABOUT THE FORMER SITE OF
On The Former Site Of, the tenth studio album from the acclaimed supergroup, ten short stories of people at personal and societal extremes are collected as meticulously crafted pop songs. The record was first crafted by Newman in his home studio before being brought to the band, composed of A.C. Newman, Kathryn Calder, Neko Case, John Collins and Todd Fancey. The band is joined for the first time by storied session drummer Charley Drayton (Divinyls, The Rolling Stones, Fiona Apple). Josh Wells (Destroyer, Black Mountain) will join as the touring drummer for the band’s upcoming dates in the Spring.

Of the making of the album, Newman shares, “Having time in my studio really opened things up. I don’t like wasting my bandmates’ time, and always felt guilty when I’d give them a song, ask them to do something, then completely change the song and ask them to do it again. Now I can get the skeleton of a song together first—just a couple of elements, the key feeling, really as little as possible—before bringing it to the band and running from there.”

The band will kick off their U.S. tour on April 22 at The Wilbur in Boston with stops at New York’s Webster Hall, Los Angeles’ Teragram Ballroom, Chicago’s The Metro, Washington D.C.’s 9:30 Club and many more, with support from Will Sheff of Okkervil River. Tickets are available now at thenewpornographers.com, full details and a list of dates can be found below.

In addition to “Votive,” the album features the group’s most recent single, Ballad Of The Last Payphone,” which is available as a limited 7-inch vinyl first release and is the subject of acclaim from Pitchfork, Brooklyn Vegan, Stereogum and more. Paste named it one of their Best New Songs, raving that “‘Ballad Of The Last Payphone’ hits a different kind of nerve. Less giddy power-pop, more slow-burn meditation, the track leans into melancholy with acoustic strums, ghostly pedal steel, and vocals that swirl like a memory you can’t quite shake.”

The New Pornographers have released nine studio albums, including their classic debut, Mass Romantic, reissued in 2021 to celebrate its 21st anniversary. Their latest, 2023’s Continue as a Guest, marked their debut for Merge Records; New York Magazine lauded, “The New Pornographers are a massive unit bursting with unique and intersecting talents…the band’s ninth album serves another helping of their signature dish,” while Brooklyn Vegan named it “one of The New Pornographers’ most lush albums, thick with synthesizers and horns and harmonies…their unique chemistry is as distinct and appealing as ever.”

This March, Edwin Raphael will release his new album, I Know A Garden, before heading out on tour throughout Ontario and Quebec and then on to Europe. Today, the Montreal-based songwriter is sharing the opening track from the album, “First Time On Earth”.

"First Time on Earth” is “that breathless first step onto the island of being — the moment of arrival in a life you didn’t choose, but must now inhabit fully,” says Raphael. “The soil is unfamiliar, and every sensation feels magnified by wonder.

“It plays like a dream, wide-eyed and slow-motion, asking questions instead of offering answers. As a second-born son, a quiet observer, and someone who often lingered in the background of his own life, this song traces that early sense of awe and displacement. You’re here — alive, sensing everything — but wondering, is anyone else feeling this too?"

MORE ABOUT EDWIN RAPHAEL
With roots in Kerala, India, Raphael studied classical guitar before deciding on the keys. As he developed an affinity for John Mayer and Ben Howard, he felt at odds with a distinct sense of “placelessness”. It wasn’t until he moved to Montreal to pursue a business degree that he felt a sense of stability, and became deeply entangled with the city’s indie bedroom pop scene.

His debut EP Ocean’s Walk (2015) paired stirring, melancholic instrumentals with a fierce self-reckoning. It would set the stage for a string of releases that would dive deeper into the psyche; like confronting the aftershocks following a significant heartbreak, or relearning your emotional baseline as you mature. Subsequent releases, Cold Nights (2017)Will You Think of Me Later? (2019), and its follow up Staring at Ceilings (2021), reveal an artist devoted to sharpening his ability to translate his experiences into ubiquitous statements.
