GRAMMY Award winning singer-songwriter, poet, activist and multi-instrumentalist Allison Russell has released a new EP today titled Rainbows. The three-set includes her first new, original music in two years and is the title track, which arrives with a video from director Mason Poole. In addition to the original song, she has covered two Sarah McLachlan tracks including “Mary” and “Angel.” Russell will join the legendary artist on tour throughout the summer and the pair will perform together at the JUNO Awards later this month to honor Joni Mitchell. See all tour dates below and get your tickets HERE.

Of Rainbows EP, Russell says, “There is improbable magic all around us, and limitless magic in our own hearts and minds and imaginations. ‘Rainbows’ is a song about reconnecting with our own essential magic —a magic maybe we thought we’d  lost —so that we can pour it back into the World. It felt right to pair ‘Rainbows’ with these two covers of Sarah McLachlan’s magical work. Sarah is a trailblazer for all women in music — her Lilith Fair taught an entire generation of girls and women that we were never in competition, always stronger in community.”

Russell has also just completed her second run on Broadway as Persephone in the 8 time Tony Award winning musical Hadestown. She took over the role in November 2024 initially, after spending much of that year opening for Hozier on his Unreal Unearth Tour supporting his arena run on all US dates and throughout Europe. She made her Billboard Hot 100 debut thanks to their duet Wildflower & Barley.

The accolades for Russell have been immense. Last year she was nominated for the Polaris Music Prize and named Billboard Women In Music Canada’s “Breakthrough Artist of the Year.” She has had eight GRAMMY Award nominations and one win, earned three 2022 Americana Award nominations and a win for Album of the Year with subsequent nominations in 2023 and 2024, two International Folk Music Award wins, a 2022 JUNO Award nomination for ‘Songwriter of the Year,’ and her first-ever JUNO Award win for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year. Russell won three Canadian Folk Music Awards, two UK Americana Music Awards, and more.

In addition, Russell has consistently used her platform to elevate, educate and inspire; curating the history making Once And Future Sounds: Roots and Revolution set for the Newport Folk Festival in 2021 and mobilizing the triumphant Love Rising All-Star benefit concert in support of LGBTQIA+ causes in Nashville - raising over $550,000 and calling national attention to Tennessee’s dangerous anti-trans and anti-drag laws. Russell has also announced a book deal for her debut novel, a memoir based on her life and the material that inspired Outside Child and The Returner.

Time for some non-fiction. The human condition: that’s pure “FRICTION.” It costs a million dollars just to stay alive. Play it cool, feel the vibe. In his latest offering out today, Tiga departs from his signature quick fire hooks, opting for a more relaxed approach as he frames the collective feeling of the tricky times in which we’re all living. ‘Too much friction, too much tension… I need some of your attention,’ proclaims Tiga on the track.

For decades now, club culture has served as an escape from the day-to-day grind for so many dancers around the world, and “FRICTION” is an ode to the continued ability of dance music to lighten the load. Tiga has always had a knack for threading the middle ground between lighthearted tones and heavy emotion, and “FRICTION” is the latest example of his tried & true studio mastery.

“FRICTION” was co-written by Jesper Dahlbäck and Priori, with additional production from Patrick Holland. Following the long-awaited “ECSTACY SURROUNDS ME,” the Fcukers collab “SILK SCARF,” and the captivating '"HOT WIFE," “FRICTION” serves as the final pre-release single from HOTLIFE, Tiga’s first album in a decade. Scheduled for April 17, 2026 as a collaborative release via Montreal’s Turbo Recordings and Secret City Records, the project will also contain features from Boys Noize, Fcukers, Maara, and MRD.

MORE ABOUT TIGA
Tiga, born in Montreal, is a globally renowned DJ, producer, and the creative force behind Turbo Recordings. His journey began in the vibrant chaos of the 1980s Indian club scene, where he developed a deep appreciation for electronic music’s transformative power. Returning to Montreal in the early 1990s, Tiga pioneered a new wave of nightlife, introducing innovative party concepts, guest DJs, and Montreal’s first rave, “Solstice,” in 1993. His relentless pursuit of musical excellence saw him co-founding the legendary nightclub Sona, creating a sanctuary for bold, cutting-edge dance music, while his label Turbo Recordings became a launchpad for numerous iconic releases in electronic music from legends such as Chromeo, Azari & III, Gesaffelstein, Duke Dumont, ANNA, and Charlotte de Witte.

There’s always been a fertile creative tension at the heart of Tiga’s music: on the one hand he’s the underground techno don, on the other, there’s a pop sensibility that enables him to write great songs. It’s this duality that makes him one of electronic music’s most engaging characters. He’s about as far from your faceless techno DJ as it’s possible to get.

As a producer, Tiga achieved global recognition with his chart-topping cover of “Sunglasses at Night,” a collaboration with Zyntherius, which became an anthem for electro enthusiasts. His remix credits include high-profile artists such as The xx, LCD Soundsystem, Moby, Depeche Mode, and Justice, solidifying his reputation as a master of reinvention. Tiga’s contribution to the prestigious DJ Kicks series showcased his eclectic style, while his original works, including the hit single “Pleasure from the Bass,” cemented his place in the pantheon of electronic music.

“Jacob Brodovsky spins mundane observations with imaginative insights, using lyrical richness and splashes of humour to paint in pensive musings and quirky, comforting colour” — Exclaim!

In some cases, songwriters discover their writing is premonition only after living through the experiences their past-self penned. In 2025, Jacob Brodovsky lived through a loss of community that, at the time, he didn’t realize he’d foretold while writing his upcoming sophomore LP, Tell The Kids We Tried.

The award-winning indie-folk songwriter, based in Treaty 1 Territory, began recording with a group of trusted friends and heroes. He brought a batch of songs to producers Gavin Gardiner and Champagne James Robinson (MOONRIIVR), only to quickly discard many of them in favour of brand new songs stemming from a ‘Song Every Week’ songwriting challenge that the Winnipeg music community takes part in every Winter.

Without time to edit or really even think about them, these eleven songs revealed themselves to be more vulnerable and personal than previous work. With the help of John Mark Baron (Begonia, William Prince), Jason Tait (The Weakerthans, Bahamas), Keiran Placetka (Leith Ross, William Prince, Bros. Landreth), Charlotte Cornfield, Dominique Adams (Leith Ross, Madeleine Roger), and Taylor Jackson, they recorded live to an 8-track tape machine, quickly capturing the true expression of each song and being forced to commit to creative decisions in the moment.

Today, Brodovsky is sharing the album’s first single and opening track, “Past Mistakes”, which also arrives with a video directed by Christine Fellows. The song acts as an “introduction to the world of the record both sonically, but also thematically,” he says. “If ‘Kids’ is the thesis statement for this album, ‘Past Mistakes’ is a table of contents. Almost like an overture.”

“Past Mistakes” is a song Brodovsky started writing during the pandemic in late 2021 “as a simple writing exercise to try and incorporate as many metaphors into a song as possible,” he explains. “Of course what started as a benign stream of consciousness exercise turned quite quickly into a song about feeling hopeless and mundane. I remember reflecting on how in pop culture and social media we kept commenting on how ‘2020 was the worst year ever’ but also how things never really seemed to feel like they were getting better.

“I tried to channel that feeling of hopelessness into a fictional character on this song. Someone who, like so many of us, found themselves largely alone for a very long time during the pandemic and spent a lot of time recounting all the ways they had misstepped in the past. We all hold our lists of past mistakes pretty close. Or at least I do.

“This was one of the first songs we recorded for the record, and to me recording this song was really the first time I finally saw the ‘world’ of the record being put together. I remember sitting back in the studio getting a little teary eyed as I was realizing what this record was becoming. I felt so incredibly lucky (and frankly unworthy) to have all of these incredible musicians I had looked up to for so long in the same room with me.”

MORE ABOUT JACOB BRODOVSKY + TELL THE KIDS WE TRIED
After spending the vast majority of his life in the Jewish Summer Camp world, including becoming Co-Executive Director with his wife of the popular local community camp they met at over 25 years ago, political tensions forced him to walk away from both what he thought was his life’s work, and the community he grew up in just days after the birth of their second son. Many tracks like “Kids”, “Beneath It All”, “It’s Alright”, “Lack Thereof”, and “Older, Too” foreshadowed the upcoming loss of community that Jacob would experience while his child was being born.

The political and personal impacts live in each song, sharing the sense of loss and confusion Brodovsky felt through the process. At the same time, the collection of songs shares more hope than disappointment. With a close listen, many songs show the importance of finding true community, seeing good in tough situations, and learning to feel less allergic to growing up and getting older.

On one level, the album is a clear message to Jacob’s former campers and staff. On another level, telling the kids we tried is directed at his own two children, hoping for understanding as to why he’s raising them in a world that’s getting harder and harder to believe in.

Finally, it’s a reminder for all of us as we try to carve space for kindness and community in an increasingly bleak time. Please, tell them we tried.
