“Safe And Sound” Video Still

Yoke Lore follows up the release of his stunning Meditations EP and recent run of UK tour dates with a beautifully shot docu-video to accompany his latest single “Safe and Sound”. Directed by Dylan Mulick, the video follows identical twin sisters Emilie and Brianna Gonzalez from LA as they prepare to compete in the Beat The Streets Los Angeles Freestyle Wrestling Championship.

The song itself is a stirring observation on the changing roles relationships play in this era. Speaking about the video New Yorker Adrian Galvin (aka Yoke Lore) says “This video is about learning how to create safety for ourselves. For Emilie and Brianna Gonzalez, wrestling is a place of prowess and freedom. Though it's not necessarily a ‘safe’ activity, wrestling is a refuge for them. It's a place where they can find joy through skill and inclusion through commitment.  Whether that thing for us is an act or a game or a person or a piece of music, this video is about finding, creating, and using it to balance and orient us.“

Adding to this, video director Dylan Mulick explains “When I was younger wrestling changed my life and inadvertently put me on a path to become a filmmaker. Over the years, the parallels between training and competition couldn't relate any better to a life in the creative arts. Adrian and I shared the experience of wrestling as kids and when the opportunity to collaborate came about, it was the first idea that came to mind. We reached out to Morris Bird at Beat the Streets LA and they couldn't have been more helpful. He introduced us to the Gonzales family and invited us to their tournament. This is hands down the most emotional and personal project I've had the privilege to be a part of. I'm really grateful to be able to help share the twins experience with wrestling driven by Adrian's beautiful song, ‘Safe and Sound’.”

Yoke Lore is the solo musical venture of Adrian Galvin, previously of Yellerkin and Walk the Moon. After putting out three acclaimed EPs which gained him a loyal following — Far Shore (2016), Goodpain (2017), and Absolutes (2018) — 2019’s Meditations EP strips several of Galvin’s familiar songs to their core by trading the usual electronic elements for arrangements of piano, horns, and strings. In addition to these re-interpretations, listeners will also find Galvin’s two latest singles “Safe and Sound” and “Chin Up” to complete the Meditations EP.

Three years of non-stop touring (supporting acts like Bastille, LP, Frenship, Overcoats, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, and Aquilo) and playing festivals worldwide (SXSW, The Great Escape, Field Trip, Billboard Hot 100) led to Yoke Lore’s first US headline tours, selling out shows all over the country. Having recently completed his first run of UK headline show and appearances at Firefly Festival and Bushstock he heads out on an extensive North American tour in the autumn. Full tour dates can be found below.

Yoke Lore layers the harmonies of Panda Bear, the soulful beats of M83, and the modern pop of Blackbird Blackbird to tell “the stories of how we are bound.” Galvin’s songs start with the folksy timbre of a banjo and add echoing waves of vocals and percussion to create unforgettable pop music with tactile sincerity and conviction. Since 2016, he has released 3 EP’s and a handful of singles, including a cover of Savage Garden’s “Truly Madly Deeply” that Taylor Swift added to her “Songs Taylor Loves” playlist.
