For PonderBeat, our collaboration with Laurie Brown’s Pondercast, Laurie has curated a playlist for a summer that is unlike any other we’ve seen in recent years. The playlist mirrors the events, thoughts, and feelings that occupy a world locked down by a pandemic and also protesting in the streets. Rich Aucoin’s “Reset” takes up a cause and gives us something to sing together while AG47’s remix of WHOOP-Szo’s “Amaruq” continues the protest anthems. Reuben and The Dark’s “We Will Get There” continues that desire for change and imagines a better future that is so close.
With plans on hold for the time being, Liza Anne’s “Bad Vacation” is the perfect stay-cation tune for the weirdness that is this summer - one that doesn’t linger on the awful moments but instead keeps moving forward. And though this may not be the summer of love, summerset’s “Anywhere You Go” gives us that over the moon feeling of love that summer’s are for. And while seasonal romances don’t always work out, TOPS’ “Take Down” gives us the other side, a one way conversation after a break up.
With these being unsettled times, Jordan Klassen’s “Ministry Of Doubt” provides a little self-help for the soul, reminding us we’re not alone. Continuing the lift off the ground, Absolutely Free’s “Begin” is more of a mood than a song, one that belongs above the clouds. And Evangeline Gentle unites with a sense of sameness and brings our playlist to a close with “You And I”, a heartfelt plea to pull us altogether.
