Episode 9 of PonderBeat, Killbeat’s collaboration with Pondercast, Laurie Brown has curated a playlist that studies the human condition of looking for intimacy in our current state of disconnect (yet, somehow always connected) and helps us transition from Winter into Spring, from darkness into light. Remembering the past, but also working to focus on the light at the end of the tunnel.
The playlist begins with both darkness and light in Dana Sipos’ “Light Around The Body”, finds a direct connection back to bedrock of life with a breath in Aasiva’s “Namu”, and reflects on the intimate feeling of being alone in Alyson McNamara’s “That’s Today”.
Laurie compares the emotional complexity of Allison Russel’s auto-biographical “Nightflyer” to a diamond with a hundred different facets, while Bernice’s “Your Beautiful House” glides through the air, an outer-body experience, looking down on the bigger picture. Joseph Shabason’s “Life With My Grandparents” also looks back on the past and continues to try and understand the weight of his upbringing.
Connecting and needing to talk through ‘growing up’ is central to Charlie Houston’s “Calls”, while Treephone’s “A Map” puts us in the back seat of a long drive and into stories stretched out over miles. The Weather Station’s “Atlantic” works to find new ways to exist today, while Hildegard’s “Jour 3” finds intimacy in a simple phone call.
