Today, Pondercast and Killbeat are pleased to present the 11th installment of our podcast series, PonderBeat, a playlist of our artists curated by Laurie Brown.

For Episode 11, Laurie begins with two tracks which both share the common theme of finding courage, whether it be to stand up for who you are in Kyla Charter’s “Qwyn” or to face your own struggle with religion in Jordan Klassen’s “Ash Wednesday”.

Our Spring episode of PonderBeat features some very summery sounding selections with Scott Hardware’s “Summer” and Helena Deland’s “Swimmer”, however both tracks don’t necessarily focus on flora and fauna. Both explore past relationships; in Hardware’s case it’s his relationship with nostalgia, while Deland writes about her relationship and journey with her mother.

Yves Jarvis takes us on a trip of a different kind with “Prism Through Which I Perceive” while Katie Tupper wonders “How Can I Get Your Love”, perhaps an apt question to ask while exploring relationships through a pandemic. Speaking of relationships, leave it to Donovan Woods to get right down to the details in “Leave When You Go” with help of Ralph.

For Cassidy Mann, Laurie says it’s easy to see why she would be the first signee on Donovan Woods’ label, End Time Music. Similar to Woods’, Mann’s songwriting focuses on small, real moments, particularly in “Election Night”.

In The Weather Station’s “Marsh”, songwriter Tamara Lindeman also references an election night, however her track captures that feeling, much like the tension of awaiting an outcome, of hanging in the balance, teetering on the edge.

And to wrap up the playlist, Laurie has selected Sam Weber’s “Money” and adds a reminder that the arts were hit hard these last few years. Buy some music maybe?
