2019 NORTH AMERICAN TOUR DATES CONTINUE TODAY

“Pulling you along so gently...completely timeless sound.” - NPR All Songs Considered

“Steady percussion and bass set a hypnotic pace that lull the listener into a shoegaze-y trance. Swelling brass pushes through the sleepy soundscape, an unexpected sonic choice that coaxes you gently from dreamland and back into the real world.” - Paste (On “Hallboy”)

“Sam Sarty’s lead vocals graze atop a celestial wash of guitar strums, steady percussion, and swelling horns. It’s a melancholic, introspective ballad that ascends to a cathartic climax — a tantalizing hint of what’s to come, considering it’s the first track on the album.” - Stereogum (On “Hallboy”)

Today, Winnipeg’s Living Hour share their new LP Softer Faces with the world. Out via Kanine Records, everything about the band has been expanding since their humble basement beginnings in 2015. What started with dreamy love songs inspired by the cinematic sky of their hometown has transformed into even more sprawling and expansive expressions on their latest effort.

NPR’s All Songs Considered notes that while the band can fit right alongside 90s heros Slowdive and Cocteau Twins, that Living Hour possess a “completely timeless sound” and one that pulls “you along so gently.” Softer Faces is available to stream and purchase on all platforms today.

Currently, Living Hour is in the middle of a winter / spring North American tour that includes a stop at SXSW and ends with a return home to Winnipeg in March. See full dates below.

MORE ABOUT LIVING HOUR’S SOFTER FACES

What started as a quartet is now a quintet, though still led by the smoky, ethereal lead vocals of Sam Sarty (vocals, trombone, keyboard), who started singing in choirs at a young age. With her strong vocal backbone, musicians Gil Carroll (guitar), Adam Soloway (guitar, vocals), Alex Chochinov (drums, trumpet, organelle), and Brett Ticzon (bass, vocals) are able to shine. Three voices, guitar, trombone, brushed percussion, and boundless effects sees Living Hour pulling from many genres to create their own sonically diverse and unique vibe.

Softer Faces follows up to their highly-praised 2016 S/T debut, featuring haunting, ethereal vocals accompanied by lush, expansive instrumentation. The album was produced by Kurt Feldman (The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Chairlift, DIIV, Dum Dum Girls) in Living Hour’s hometown and mixed by Jarvis Taveniere (Real Estate, Woods, Blouse, Widowspeak) at Thump Studios in Brooklyn.

Known for their mesmerizing and deeply-moving live show, Living Hour has toured Europe, the UK and North America. Their performance captures the dreamy, emotional power of the band’s recordings, creating a mesmerizing, unforgettable, cathartic, and deeply moving live music experience. Sarty finds that, "Sometimes people are a little turned off and not living in the now or being present. I find that when you perform, it's one of the most present moments that you can be in. You're living in the hour."

Coupla pals - nuff said. Ben Rogers 'Wildfire' Out Friday March 1 on Still Records smarturl.it/BenRogersWildfire‬

Beginning March 18, Rogers will take Wildfire on the road with Bahamas for a run of Canadian tour dates throughout Ontario. Full tour dates can be found below. Tickets on sale now HERE.

Wildfire sees Rogers drifting away from it the sounds of his first two acclaimed solo albums, 2015’s The Bloodred Yonder and 2013’s Lost Stories: Volume One. The sound – still rooted in folk and Americana, though now with an earnest new attitude permeates throughout – is a raw, hazy, rock-inspired swagger that channels the likes of possessed masterminds from Nick Cave to Otis Redding to Marc Bolan of T.Rex. Put simply, it is enveloping, and the authenticity is palpable.

Wildfire was penned by Rogers and brought to life under the guidance of a new collaborator - Dallas Green, sitting in the producer’s chair for his first time. Ironically, their partnership was born during a period that each was overcoming a creative impasse.

Green explains what initially drew him to the project: “I recognized something really special about this collection of songs – this vulnerability from Ben was really moving to me. I think it was a brilliant experience for all of us and resulted in a really beautiful record. Not only do I believe in it and think it’s fantastic, but it also did something for me; it really opened a whole new chapter of my creative life.”

Rogers echoes the sentiment. “I can tell Dallas cares about this project as much as I do. He is just so devoted to the process. He really challenged us, but with a generosity of spirit that you just don’t encounter that often. It was the best experience I’ve ever had on a creative level.”

Rounding out the recording experience were co-producer Karl Bareham (City and Colour, Alexisonfire), mixer Jacquire King (Kings of Leon, City and Colour, Tom Waits), and Rogers’ long time band: Matt Kelly (City and Colour) on pedal steel and keys, Erik Nielsen (Dralms, Rich Hope) on bass, John Sponarski (Aaron Pritchett) on lead guitar, and Leon Power (Frazey Ford) at the kit.

“Somewhere Beyond The Ocean” Single Artwork // DOWNLOAD HIGH-RES

Micah Erenberg is a diversely talented multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer from Manitoba. His lyrics are a mosaic of stories, thoughts and reactions from small town, big ideas Canada; the land of few people and vast, flat, lake laden landscape. Erenberg's music is charming, witty, and authentic. His full disclosure style of writing makes for captivating, poetic and gracefully heartbreaking songs that display an honesty and talent that doesn't take itself too seriously.

Recently signed to Sleepless Records, today he shares the perfectly imperfect jam “Somewhere Beyond The Ocean” and the video created by Colin Medley featuring some of Manitoba’s most hidden gem locales and locals. Together, the song and video are a match made in Winnipeg winter heaven. For the video, “Colin wanted a diner, an industrial park and a toboggan hill,” says Erenberg. “The Oldie, Gimli Airport, and Pope’s Hill. We conjured up a group of lovely hooligans, embraced the cold and had a blast.”

"Sometimes it can feel like we're stuck in our lives, whether that's working a crummy job, or living in a country where it's cold most of the year,” says Medley. “With this video I wanted to show that there's always an escape, whether it's escaping into your own imagination or ditching work to go tobogganing with all your closest buddies."

Micah Erenberg's official video for "Somewhere Beyond the Ocean" Directed by: Colin Medley https://www.facebook.com/micaherenberg https://www.instagram.com/micaherenbergofficial https://twitter.com/micaherenberg "Hollow, aimless and empty, lazy and carefree, every day All night, cocaine and punched lights, keeping the mood down, keeping you up Making you proud to be around Somewhere beyond the ocean, under the hot sun, over the hill You will wonder if old thrills keep a new fall out Now that you're gone; now that you're no one at all You said that there's a big difference between Doing what's right the wrong way, and living honestly"

“Where to begin,” says Erenberg of the track. “This is a song that I wrote almost ten years ago. I remember the house. I remember the party. I remember the reports of my friend getting knocked out after I left. I remember the face of the person who did it. Around that time, the opening lyrics described a lot of the people in my social circles, and probably myself more than I would like to admit. I wanted to write about the feeling you get when you step away from that lifestyle. Bad habits are still habits and its harder to walk away from them than it seems.”

Originally released as an acoustic version on one of Erenberg’s earlier DIY albums “Somewhere Beyond The Ocean” is now a rock song, but still features layers of the original recording from many years ago. The song’s meaning has also evolved over time. “I remember being asked the meaning of the closing lyric,” says Erenberg. “I had initially imagined it in a conversation between lovers and had never quite understood its placement. After being asked to explain it, I realized that it was more accurately describing a common situation in modern Social Justice. It wasn’t until then that I may have truly understood what the song meant to me. More likely is that I still do not know.”
