Today, Tamino is pleased to share his latest video for the track Each Time which came off of his debut album Amir. The video is a still yet evolving landscape – making it the perfect backdrop for the song’s mesmerizing melodies and ethereal orchestral arrangements that utilize the Arabic scale, making for a track that is strikingly subversive to the western ear. The young artist’s debut album Amir was produced by PJ Maertens and Jo Francken, and features Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood on the single “Indigo Night”. Amir is out now on Arts & Crafts in North America, and Communion throughout the rest of the world.

Of Belgian, Egyptian, and Lebanese heritage, the 22-year-old musician named Tamino-Amir Moharam Fouad has written and shaped an album filled with startling sit-up-and-listen power. His voice, at one moment sweetly crooning (“Cigar”) at the next displaying a blistering and flawless falsetto showing off his breath-taking three octave range (“Habibi”). Throughout the album, Tamino is joined by a collective of Arabic musicians based in Brussels called Nagham Zikrayat an orchestra predominantly made up of professional musicians from the Middle East, most of whom are refugees that fled Iraq and Syria.

This March Tamino will play his first ever North American show at SXSW 2019. Last Fall he was featured in Live Nation’s One’s To Watch, which spoke of Tamino’s voice saying his “falsetto surpasses “face melting” and rises to a space of pureness that can only be described as divine.” His stunning live performances have garnered large and growing audiences across Europe and the UK. Including sold out show across Belgium, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Ireland, The United Kingdom and more. Recently, he announced his first headline stadium show in Nov 2019 at Antwerp’s Lotto Arena.

The BBC hailed Amir as “The New Sound Of The Nile” an ode to Tamino’s grandfather the famed Egyptian singer and movie star Muharram Fouad. The Independent included Amir in their top 10 albums of 2018 and asked “Is Tamino the heir to Jeff Buckley?”. Tamino won the Anchor Award at Germany’s 2018 Reeperbahn festival and has been nominated for 5 MIA Award’s in Belgium.

Most recently, Tamino is making a splash in the fashion world and is featured alongside supermodel Gisele Bündchen in Missoni’s SS19 Collection. During Paris Fashion week he was featured “in conversation” with Maison Valentino and performed a solo version of “Indigo Nights”, watch here.

Space Rock Psych Warriors Black Mountain announce their forthcoming album, Destroyer, out May 24 via Dine Alone. They also share their blistering lead single, “Future Shade”, which has a riff that “travelled around the world then hit the bong with a chorus a year and a half later,” says Stephen McBean. “A last attempt at double frosting produced a chorus on chorus death match.  Anxiety is the new heavy metal.”

Black Mountain’s Stephen McBean turned 16 after Woodstock but before Varg started burning down Norwegian churches. And yet, until just two short years ago, McBean had lived his entire adolescence and adult life without a proper driver’s license, that first and most coveted ticket to personal independence. Black Mountain’s new album, Destroyer, is imbued with all that wild-ass freedom and newfound agency (and anxiety and fear) that comes with one's first time behind the wheel.

Destroyer, named after the discontinued single-run 1985 Dodge Destroyer muscle car, is structured around the feeling of driving a hot rod. The album exists in the middle of the early-to-mid 80s Los Angeles war between punk and hair metal - it’s exhilarating, spirited, and dangerous. Throughout, youthful themes run rampant: “Boogie Lover” cruises down the Sunset Strip, “Horns Arising” is a fill-up at a desert gas station just in time to see a UFO hovering near a mesa, and “High Rise” rounds out a sense of teenage discovery.

To create Destroyer, McBean shacked himself up in his rehearsal space and invited over friends from the endless rock’n’roll highway, bringing to life 22 songs. While some were laid back into shallow graves to dig up once again at a later date, the others were left above ground and polished and given life, some transformed by longtime band member Jeremy Schmidt. This generation of Black Mountain also sees new members Rachel Fannan (Sleepy Sun) and Adam Bulgasem (Dommengang & Soft Kill) as well as familiar collaborators Kliph Scurlock (Flaming Lips), Kid Millions (Oneida) and John Congleton (St. Vincent, Swans). Collectively, there’s a renewed vitality to Black Mountain on Destroyer — a seasoned, veteran of heady hard rock that’s found new, young muscles to flex and roads to explore.

“If the rest of Citizen Alien, is half this good, expect another JUNO nod and maybe another win for these two.” Roots Music Canada (on “Dear Sister”)

Citizen Alien, the new LP from Winnipeg duo Leaf Rapids, started the way all good things do, with a story, one that emerged from the time-shrouded attics of Keri Latimer’s family history. A tale of the great-grandmother she knew only as tiny and soft-spoken, a gentle soul who only spoke Japanese. Who would have guessed that once, in her youth, that same little old woman stabbed a man with a pair of barbershop shears? That tale became the torch to light a new journey. As the years turned, Keri plunged into the depths of her family’s ancestral memories, resurfacing with stories like jewels that had been tucked away and forgotten. These she polished and kept safe, waiting until it was time to hold their colours up to the light once more.

Now, all of those stories come together on Citizen Alien, due out May 3 via Coax Records. The project is a labour of love for Keri and her husband, Devin Latimer. Through their own family’s stories they created a new world from the old, delving into the intimate truths told by voices from decades long gone.

Today, the pair share the video for album opener “Dear Sister”. Directed by Keri the video sees cameos from Al Simmons, John Wort hannam, and Carolyn Mark. Keri tells Roots Music Canada, “Dear Sister” was inspired by “some of the remarkable stories told to me by loved ones of their teenage pregnancies. Who doesn’t remember that horrible high school dread of being late in your moonly cycle? Shame and blame baby, coming right up. Maybe you’ll be supported by a loving family, or maybe you’ll be shunned from your community, or maybe both.”

Song: Dear Sister Album: Citizen Alien ** Album release May 3, 2019 ** Artist: Leaf Rapids ~ www.leafrapids.org Songwriter/Video editor: Keri Latimer Label: Coax Records ~ coaxrecords.com Publicity: Killbeat Music ~ www.killbeatmusic.com Very special thanks to the following people who sent in their own cameo appearances: Al Simmons, Jennifer Still,

Each of the Citizen Alien’s 10 songs spins out a thread, binding history and identity to time and place. Threads that crossed oceans, stretched from Kyoto to Iceland’s wind-whipped northern coast, tangled in the heart of the Canadian prairie. Stories of lives that crept forward in boats across the water, lunches packed in liquor-store bags and battered suitcases bursting at their seams.

There is an openness on this record. There is space. It spans out like the vastness between stars. The liquid silver of Keri’s voice spills over a brushed snare, a Theremin trill, an acoustic guitar; all are given room to speak fully. Maybe it’s partly that they recorded Keri’s vocals first, an approach she’d never tried before, either as Leaf Rapids or her previous incarnation as part of JUNO Award winning alt-country quartet Nathan.

Whatever its genesis, Citizen Alien’s soundscape is intoxicating. Co-produced with acclaimed Winnipeg multi-instrumentalist and composer Rusty Matyas (Imaginary Cities, The Sheepdogs), the record saunters from the summery strums of the opener, “Dear Sister”, to the wintery harmonies of “Caragana Switch” with Alexa Dirks (Begonia) and Grant Davidson (Slow Leaves). Whimsical melodies strike a stark contrast with unsettling imagery, all of it playing out in the mind like an old sepia-toned movie. For Keri, who also scores for film, that flickering cinematic quality is intentional: it crystallizes the convergence of her composing life, her folk-life, and the life of her family.

But this is not only a personal record. Every family has stories of people who crossed oceans, who survived, who struggled and tried. People who knew injustice. And though some of those stories now fade into the haze of time, the truth of them remains vivid. Consider the album’s title track, declaration of love between ancestors divided by the travesty of Canada’s Second World War-era Japanese internment camps; if the same thing happened today, Keri points out, she and Devin would be split up, their children taken away.

Today, that kind of horror still threatens. Hate still festers, and power still tries to push human lives into the divide. But there is hope. Because, as Citizen Alien shows, we are all the dream of a future our forebears once had. Every day, we carry that dream forward in the stories we are heir to and the wisdom they hold, and every day, we have a chance to let those tales shine.
