Today, Kalle Mattson shares the remix of “Strangers”, from his latest LP Youth., by DJ duo Rainer + Grimm (The Weeknd, Allan Rayman, Drake). "This one is for anyone who’s thought: 'I wish this DJ would play something upbeat AND SAD.’”, says Mattson. “Seriously though, it’s pretty surreal to hear your own song remixed for the first time, the Rainer + Grimm guys did a great job. Catch you in the club.”

Recently, Rich Aucoin shared the first single, “The Mind”, from his upcoming LP, Release, due out May 17 via Haven Sounds. Today, the acclaimed musician is sharing the video for the track directed by Meghan Tansey Whitton.

Aucoin tells Paste Magazine, “The song is a reflection on the mind. The video is a reflection, as well. The less articulated, the better. Meghan Tansey Whitton is a strong photographer and was experimenting with these reflections in the beautiful part of the world in which we both live, Nova Scotia. She shot this video over two years along with our faceless star, Mimi Audellyn.”

Speaking about the instrumental track “The Mind”, Aucoin explains, “This track is about the mind and therefore has no lyrics. Musically, this song has two drum sets on it. The main kit is played by Jeremy Malvin (aka Chrome Sparks) and the second is carried over from the Release session by Broken Social Scene’s Justin Peroff. Ben Talmi played the very rare Therevox slide theremin on the track down at his Virtue & Vice studio in Brooklyn. While Jenn Grant was recorded by Daniel Ledwell at his Echo Lake studio in Nova Scotia. The vocal melody seamlessly switches from male to female vocals with Jenn and my voices being the samples.”

Produced by Aucoin and drummer Joel Waddell, Release was inspired by a wide range of music such as David Bowie, Holly Herndon, Fatboy Slim, Björk, John Lennon, Future Islands, Caribou and Chic just to name a few. These influences are evident in his music, as his diverse sound could be compared to a mix of MGMT, Beck, Arcade Fire, Spoon, and M83 all the while still maintaining his own unique blend of organic and synthetic instrumentation. His third album, Release, sees Aucoin grapple with the concept of mortality by using Alice in Wonderland (1951) as a metaphor for the journey. Release can be played as alternate soundtrack along to the film similar to Aucoin’s earlier LP Ephemeral and The Little Prince.

Aucoin’s music has seen acclaim across the board with previous releases, We’re All Dying To Live and Ephemeral, long-listed for the Polaris Music Prize. The music video forBrian Wilson is A.L.I.V.E.” won the Prism Prize, which he’s also been shortlisted for this year for “The Middle”.

Using projections to these films, he has brought his interactive performance to stages at Osheaga, The Great Escape, Les Eurockéennes, Les Vielles Charrues, Berlin Music Festival, Montreal International Jazz Festival, Hangout Music Festival, Art Basel Miami, Luminato Art Festival, Iceland Airwaves, SXSW, Pop Montreal and more.

Born, raised, and currently based in Halifax, Rich Aucoin has been fully immersed in music ever since he can remember, learning how to play almost any instrument he could get his hands on while also teaching himself production and home-recording. A philanthropist at heart, Aucoin has raised money for several charities with his music. He has cycled coast to coast twice for both Childhood Cancer Canada and The Canadian Mental Health Association/Mental Health America; cycling to each show. He has also crossed Canada for the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation running a series of half-marathons.

“DOSE YOUR DREAMS” WITH FUCKED UP’S NEW VIDEO

Throughout Fucked Up’s double-album epic Dose Your Dreams, the politics and aesthetics of hardcore are married to an “open format” approach to genre: elements of doo-wop, krautrock, groove, digital hardcore, and so much more. Perhaps no better song exemplifies this marriage than the album’s title track, which has been given the music video treatment courtesy of the band’s Mike Haliechuk and is debuting today.
