Today, Montreal-based producer and multi-instrumentalist Ouri announces her new album Daisy Cutter due October 24, 2025. Alongside the announcement Ouri shares an early taste of all that’s to come with the title track of the record. Throughout Daisy Cutter, Ouri builds a world out of a radical experimentation with desire, discipline, and intimacy. What began as a practice of letting everything flow without judgment grew into a study of freedom’s contradictions: the pull between safety and risk, commitment and release, control and surrender.

The album’s title, Daisy Cutter, carries this duality. Borrowed from a bomb, devastating and absolute, it also evokes the delicate act of trimming a flower. Ouri keeps both in play, moving between sweeping force and precise gestures. Out of this tension arises music that feels both intimate and insurgent. Speaking about how the album came into being Ouri notes, “All these trusting miles in the dark led me to these 13 songs. Daisy Cutter is music but it’s also the leader of a militia, a part of me. Like a rotor, I started a practice that brought all this album to life and it’s gonna keep spinning even when I let go of the wheel.”

Ouri engineers, mixes, and masters everything herself, shaping tactile and often nocturnal sounds that shift just as they seem to settle. Across the album Ouri places herself within a community that feels at once real and imagined. Around her, friends and collaborators assemble as comrades, an underground militia intent on cultivating a future sound. Longtime allies including Mobilegirl, Oli XL, Bby Eco, Charlotte Day Wilson, Bamo Yendé, Cecil Believe, Duncan Hood, Jonah Yano, Sea Oleena and Cowboy Lansky join Ouri across the album, their contributions recorded in borrowed spaces, apartments, and other non-studio settings, exploring various ways of being in the world that allow for the contradictions of fortification and desire.

Daisy Cutter follows Ouri’s highly praised debut album Frame of a Fauna, which was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize, as well as her collaborative project Jour 1596 with Helena Deland as Hildegard, that The FADER described as, “A blessed union of avant-garde R&B saints.” Since the release of her debut album Ouri has toured across North America with celebrated artists including Yaeji, Tirzah, Charlotte Day Wilson and Smerz.

Today, The Dears are announcing their ninth studio album, Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful!, due out November 7, 2025 via Next Door Records. Their first new record since 2020’s Lovers Rock, “The Dears have made some of the most beautiful music of the past quarter century, but also some of the most defiant, with an attitude and emphasis that seems to blend the operatic with a punk sensibility,” says New York Times bestselling author Jeff VanderMeer in an article about his connection to the band.

Of the album, singer / guitarist Murray Lightburn says “I remember when it clicked in my brain what I was writing about. It was soon after we played a series of shows celebrating the 20th anniversary of No Cities Left. I was on stage surrounded by wonderful musicians, playing songs I wrote in my 20s. My kids and my mom were sitting up on the balcony of the theatre. Natalia was just to my right. I told the audience that sometimes it gets tough but that life is beautiful. I asked the audience to say it with me, three times: A mantra; a wish; an affirmation.

“Life is tough. We experience challenges all the time. In our darkest hours we might think it’s never going to be better. But if we can just make it through, we find out what we thought was impossible; that we could smile again, maybe even laugh. We feel our loved ones. We find out how strong we can be. The songs in this record are for everyone and anyone. They are meant to be supportive.”

VanderMeer adds, “Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful! Life is Beautiful! feels like a new masterpiece and provides further evidence that The Dears are a vital part of the musical landscape, and also just completely doing their own thing, as ever.” The full article by Jeff VanderMeer can read at www.killbeatmusic.com/thedears

Following recent single “Babe, We’ll Find A Way”, today The Dears are sharing the album track “Tears Of A Nation” which arrives with a video directed by Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene). “The collective battle through noise is noise in itself,” says Lightburn. “There is a decision to engage or to go it alone. To be part of the collective cries or to cry alone. The question here is which approach is the right one? Which path will get us through the noise?”

MORE ABOUT THE DEARS
Formed in 1995, The Dears released their first, ultra lo-fi album, End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story, in 2000. The orchestral, dark pop sound and dramatic live shows cemented The Dears at the foundation of the then-emerging Canadian indie-rock renaissance. Their live show was described as “the sonic equivalent of seeing the face of god.” In 2001 and 2002, they released two separate concept EPs Orchestral Pop Noir Romantique and Protest, respectively. In 2003 they released their second full-length album No Cities Left in Canada, and a string of highly anticipated shows at SXSW ‘04 prompted the international release of No Cities Left with Bella Union. Their 3rd album, Gang of Losers, came in 2006, was well received by the press, and was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize. In 2008, the band released Missiles, followed by Degeneration Street (2011), Times Infinity Volume One (2015), Times Infinity Volume Two (2017), and Lovers Rock (2020).

I KNOW A GARDEN ALBUM OUT MARCH 20, 2026

2026 TOUR DATES BEGIN IN MARCH - FULL DATES BELOW

“Then There’s You” is the first new music from the Montreal-based songwriter Edwin Raphael since 2023's Warm Terracotta. The new single is a love song wrapped in soft confrontation — the kind that doesn’t explode, but lingers like an unfinished sentence. Tucked deeper into the garden lies a grove where silence hums like a secret. It’s dappled with moments you almost forgot — half-formed feelings, words left unsaid, books you meant to finish. This is The Grove of Echoes — a place where the past loops, not loudly, but with a whisper. Here lives “Then There’s You”, the soft interruption of love when you least expect it, the kind that sneaks past your defenses and stands still, waiting.

The lyrics dance between the romantic and the disillusioned — a push and pull that feels like trying to catch sunlight with bare hands. “Lines like ‘books stacked on the nightstand’ and ‘I might just fold a second time’ links to me trying to write a new story, but keeps slipping back into the margins,” says Edwin. “The chorus carries that dizzying duality, ‘you laugh like I’m the only one who moves you’ — a compliment that cuts both ways when you're unsure of its truth.”

This grove symbolizes a deep turning point. You've wandered through self-reflection, mysticism, and memory — but this is where reality hums back. Not loud, but honest. Love in this garden isn’t always a resolution; sometimes, it’s a mirror held too close. And still, there’s a strange kind of hope in the knowing. “Then There’s You” is an ode to witnessing. To being seen not as someone broken or scattered, but as someone whole — or at least someone trying.

Watch for more news about Edwin Raphael’s upcoming album I Know A Garden to be shared soon.

MORE ABOUT EDWIN RAPHAEL
With roots in Kerala, India, Raphael studied classical guitar before deciding on the keys. As he developed an affinity for John Mayer and Ben Howard, he felt at odds with a distinct sense of “placelessness”. It wasn’t until he moved to Montreal to pursue a business degree that he felt a sense of stability, and became deeply entangled with the city’s indie bedroom pop scene.

His debut EP Ocean’s Walk (2015) paired stirring, melancholic instrumentals with a fierce self-reckoning. It would set the stage for a string of releases that would dive deeper into the psyche; like confronting the aftershocks following a significant heartbreak, or relearning your emotional baseline as you mature. Subsequent releases, Cold Nights (2017)Will You Think of Me Later? (2019), and its follow up Staring at Ceilings (2021), reveal an artist devoted to sharpening his ability to translate his experiences into ubiquitous statements.

The 2024 re-release of Will You Think of Me Later? has amassed 115 million streams on Spotify. Edwin has performed over 70 shows across 14 countries since 2023, sharing the stage alongside Palace, Hollow Coves, Noah Kahan, and more. He heads out on tour throughout Quebec beginning March 27.
