“Gizmo balance '90s slacker rock with mud-caked power-pop, and "Gift Shop"
is a testament to that.” - Stereogum

Today, Charlottetown slack rockers Gizmo are sharing another single from their upcoming album, All Your Worships, out October 2 via Victory Pool Records. Gizmo's debut full-length, comes roaring out of the gate, picking up right where 2023’s livewire Buddy System EP left off without skipping a beat. The new material finds the band mining similar sources but reaching new heights, imbuing their carefully considered, structurally ambitious power-pop songwriting with more unexpected twists and turns.

The album’s closing track, “Pantone 312” is a wistful blend of folk and Midwest emo built around conversational storytelling. More intimate than the album's guitar-forward anthems, it offers a quieter glimpse into the emotional core of All Your Worships. It was written “about 10 hours before I arrived at the first studio recording day for All Your Worships,” explains Julien Kitson. “The song’s first lyric and melody came to me in September 2024, but I couldn’t reach a final product until 5 months later, which includes lyrical nods to David Berman and The Rankin Family. We couldn’t squeeze in time to bring it to life during the album sessions, which led to myself and Loel (Campbell) taking it on in his home studio on a muggy April day. The final product became the album’s closer and a new favourite of ours in our live set.”

MORE ABOUT ALL YOUR WORSHIPS
Gizmo are Charlottetown rockers inspired by the guitar-damaged pop of 1990s American slacker bands and their contemporaries on Canada’s east coast. A 120 Minutes band for the Gen Z set, they breathe new life into their vintage influences with a distinctive songwriting style and a frenetic live show.

To record their debut album, All Your Worships, the band decamped to a converted community hall in Great Village, Nova Scotia with co-producers Alex Edkins (METZ, Weird Nightmare) and Loel Campbell (Wintersleep) in tow. They pulled 12-hour days, sleeping at the studio and capping off nights with drunken music listening sessions. The group bonded over their overlapping tastes, able to share a common language when referencing sounds and direction. Edkins and Campbell mixed the record, with Greg Obis (Stuck, Clearance) providing the finishing touches at Chicago Mastering Service.

The material was hashed out at rehearsals and live shows from 2022-2025, with the band taking a more collaborative approach to composition. This is in stark contrast to Buddy System, largely written solo by frontman Julien Kitson. This time around, each member brought songwriting contributions — bassist Spencer Swaine and guitarist Patrick Stephen take up lead vocals on their tracks “Crystal Palace” and “Faulty Straight Edge Downfall”, respectively. This does not diffuse a clear sense of direction, though. The lyrics take a stream-of-consciousness, observational approach to themes of heartache and coming of age, all topped off by a whip-smart deployment of non-sequiters, inside jokes, and maritime colloquialisms.

The arrangements further compound this unified vision; crisp acoustics, warped offset riffs, melodic basslines, and the laserpoint precision of drummer Daniel Hartinger merge to create an underlying sonic palette. This cohesion is what makes the record's diversity work — standout tracks like "Antiques Roadshow”, “Celestial”, and album closer “Pantone 312” are disparate on the surface, but all unmistakably Gizmo. All Your Worships is a 10-track mission statement from the rare breed of band that arrives fully-formed, confidently settling into their first LP and suggesting a myriad of possibilities for the future.

MORE ABOUT GIZMO
Formed in Charlottetown in 2021, their debut four-song EP Buddy System was released in August 2023. Its guitar-driven melodies and catchy hooks quickly earned them a growing audience and won them Rock Recording of the Year at the Music PEI Awards. Following its release, the band signed a publishing deal with CYMBA Music Publishing and continued writing and refining new material in rehearsal spaces and on the road.

Early on, the band toured steadily, building a devoted fanbase through their live performances, sharing stages with acts like Wintersleep, Paper Lions, Cootie Catcher, and Two Hours Traffic, and playing festivals such as Sommo Festival, Project Nowhere, and Nowadays Fest.

In 2025, following a standout performance at Showcase PEI, the band signed to both Victory Pool Records and Noisemaker Management and quickly landed summer 2026 festival slots at Hillside and Paris Drinks Fest.

“CJ Wiley keeps things simple in order to get complex. Warm guitars, steady drums and lively bass — sometimes that's all you need to start a fire. Wiley's Boy Golden-produced debut lights all kinds of fires, an ever-shifting document of change and renewal” Exclaim!

“Songs about friendship are criminally underrated. “You still call me up when my heart is burning / To calm me down with a midnight sermon,” Toronto alt-country singer CJ Wiley sings on “Adelaide,” a remarkable song about chosen family, and “choosing to love and grow together instead of growing apart. Wiley’s debut album, “So Brand Now,” is filled with striking songs about love, identity and acceptance” The Toronto Star

Today, CJ Wiley announces their new EP, Just Can’t Quit, and shares the second single from the upcoming collection. “backporch” is a song “about asking your partner to forget the world and just slow things down for a moment with you,” explains Wiley.

“The EP reflects the lifecycle of a relationship and the idea that no matter how many times love kicks our ass, we always go back for more. Like some beautiful masochistic ritual we can't get enough of. Every love is different. Hits different, hurts different. I'm a very romantic writer and honestly useless without a muse. I wanted to capture what that feels like.”

The new track follows previous single “fluke” which is a song for the initial crush. While “backporch” is about the honeymoon period and trying to slow it down to just share a moment of bliss. “pet” is about the vulnerabilities of fully committing to another person and still craving affection despite both your flaws. The last song “wasp” talks about how breakups lead to estrangement, and when there’s no contact, things feel like it’s all rupture and no repair.

MORE ABOUT CJ WILEY
Already a mainstay in Canada’s music scene having opened for artists like Tokyo Police Club, Boy Golden, US Girls, Juliana Riolino and performed at festivals like Mariposa Folk Fest, Super Crawl Riverfest Elora and Tiny Lights.

They’ve also staked their claim as a leader in the queer community as the host of the Big Gay Night concert series as well as with their performances at Pride Toronto (2022, 2023 & 2025).

2025 marked the release of So Brand New, Wiley’s debut full length LP. The artist sojourned to Winnipeg to record with Boy Golden and that polished western resonance is obvious from the album’s first blasts. It’s a passionate, tongue-in-cheek statement of certainty in themselves, a down-and-dirty roots-rock revelation that burns in a firestorm of its own conviction. Wiley sings of starting fresh, loss, gender, and how expensive it is to be alive, carving out a decisive path for themselves on a highway into and over the horizon — and they’re bringing you with them.

In support of So Brand New, they not only played shows across Canada but also ventured to the UK for The Great Escape and FOCUS Wales as their first international run of shows.

Tearing through Toronto on a groundswell of gripping indie pop and slacker rock, non-binary singer-songwriter CJ Wiley doesn’t waste any time. Twirling guitars, a steady drum beat, crunchy bass; ballads twanged slightly country, anthems skewed slightly grunge; a message of love and anger, healing and rancour, Wiley’s musical project is urgent and undeniable.

With her debut album POWER HOUSE, Magi Merlin said screw the soft launch. Built from layered, distorted production and vocals that resist form, it's an exploration of the internal architecture we all inhabit: the conflicting rooms of anger, fear, vanity, and ultimately, a reclaimed sense of power. It is a recognition that each person contains multitudes, and they can all live in harmony at the same time.

Written from her bisexual/ENM perspective and her broader experience of existing as a woman in systems designed to flatten her, the album navigates the contradictions of seeking validation in both platonic and romantic contexts, deconstructing the "plastic confidence" we're taught to wear. POWER HOUSE isn't just an album. Merlin operates as co-producer and creative director—ensuring the visual world with high-concept cinematography and armoured aesthetic—mirrors the music's refusal to soften. It's designed as a ‘living universe’ where every element, from sound to image to performance, is intentional and self-defined. This is her philosophy: real change starts small but sounds immense.

Throughout POWER HOUSE, Magi refuses to be flattened. She buries self-kindness under distorted synth. She won't resolve tension into a chorus. The armour she wears is declaration, not defence. Her music splinters—jungle breaks bleeding into futuristic synth, '90s house fractured by raw vocals. Her visual world is industrial, deliberate, refusing the consistency that makes things recognisable. She operates entirely outside of categories, including the alternative ones. POWER HOUSE is what it sounds like when someone refuses every uniform.

In addition to being available on all platforms, POWER HOUSE will be released on vinyl in five different versions: the Magi Merlin edition (Bandcamp), Rough Trade (USA & UK), HHV (Germany), and the Bonsound edition, all available for pre-order now.

The road to POWER HOUSE began with "POPSTAR", followed by the visceral choreography of "SpiceKick", its video directed by Félicie Diaz and Noshirt, then "So Smart". Culminating with "pixxxie", a liberation of women from the male gaze sung ironically from the perspective of the "manic pixie dream girl". These singles have garnered international acclaim from BBC Radio 6 Music, BBC Radio 1, Clash, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, KCRW, KEXP, Wonderland, Libération, France Inter, FIP, CBC, Radio-Canada, Exclaim! and RANGE. This June also saw Magi as one of the cover stars for Glamcult’s Noise Issue.

There's a special kind of kindred spirit that Magi Merlin makes music for; her fellow obsessives. Magi sings directly to the listener, face pressed up against the other side of the screen's glass. Through her propulsive, avant-garde form of pop and "Broken" R&B, she explores life's deep existential truths, tearing through imagination and genre like outfits ripped off a garment rack.

Over the last few years, she has written and co-composed largely alongside Funkywhat, a collaborator with whom she has built a shared musical language. Her 2022 EP Gone Girl sent her on tour with Noga Erez and on an electric performance in Mexico City in support of Omar Apollo.

A surprise EP in 2025, A Weird Little Dog, brought a deepened emphasis to her experimental style and gave rise to "Broken R&B", a genre she named and owns entirely. Since then, she opened for Nubya Garcia across the US, with festival appearances at Osheaga, Festival d'été de Québec where she opened for Ty Dolla $ign, and a European support run with Yaya Bey. Outside of music, she made her acting debut in 2026 with Chandler Levack's Mile End Kicks, alongside Barbie Ferreira, Devon Bostick and Juliette Gariépy, which screened at TIFF and SXSW.

Magi Merlin will be touring both Europe and North America this summer and fall, with headline dates in London (UK), Montréal, Toronto (CAN) and a performance at Rock En Seine sharing the Wednesday line-up with Sombr and Tyler The Creator.
