“With 10 atmospheric and poetic tunes, Larkk‘s music could be described as both meditative and curative.” The Vancouver Sun

Cinders is an intensely personal, piano-driven exercise in vulnerability. The instrument and the artist's voice are the foundational bedrock, as McTaggart casts aside the electrifying fringe- and sparkle-laden trappings of rock 'n' roll to transform before our very eyes and reintroduce herself without artifice.” Exclaim!, 2026 Most Anticipated Albums

ANNOUNCES ‘THE HARD ROCK TOUR’ WITH DATES IN VANCOUVER, LA, NYC, AND TORONTO

Today, JUNO Award-nominated Vancouver artist Drew Tarves, who records under the moniker young friend, announces his new full-length album, New Entertainment, due out November 6, 2026 via Nettwerk. Alongside the announcement, he returns with his gripping new single, “Miracle.” From the opening fuzzy guitar riff, it’s clear that young friend is entering a bold new era in the follow-up to his acclaimed 2025 debut album, motorcycle sound effects. New Entertainment is recorded live off the floor, fully analog, channeling rock albums of the past. It’s a celebration of the slow process and the inevitable mistakes. It’s taking the scenic route every time. It’s running headfirst at life with your eyes wide open, getting your hands dirty, feeling it all.

“Miracle” delivers a definitive nod to heartland rock, seamlessly balancing massive, gritty guitars with Tarves’ signature confessional, introspective style. The lyrics explore the delicate anatomy of a relationship, highlighting the beauty found in ordinary spaces.

“Miracle is about the little moments and being so grateful to find love in those mundanities,” he explains. “The third verse serves as a realization that maybe even despite all of those beautiful moments two people can share, the illusion can be broken, and it might not in fact be a miracle.”

To capture the essence of his new album, Tarves pivoted away from typical isolated studio sessions, leaning heavily into a band-first mentality. Produced by Tarves’ longtime collaborator David Marinelli (FINNEAS, Wallice, spill tab), New Entertainment captures the authentic, wall-of-sound energy of a band of the past. He brought the song structures into rehearsals, allowing the band to flesh out arrangements organically – resulting in a tactile sound that nods to classic influences like Wilco and Neil Young.

Today, young friend also announces ‘The Hard Rock Tour’, kicking off with a special hometown show in Vancouver on November 4th at The Hollywood Theatre, where fans can get a live glimpse of the new album ahead of its release. From there, young friend will head to Los Angeles, New York, and Toronto, with more to come. Find the full list of dates and details below!

MORE ABOUT YOUNG FRIEND
Drew Tarves' music as young friend feels classic and immediate all at once, capturing the nostalgia of post-adolescence while diving deep into a pool of self-reflection. His sophomore album, New Entertainment, is about fear and love in equal measure. An exploration of the ways AI and new technology are infiltrating our lives, but also a celebration of friendship and family, and genuine time spent. Of the slow process, the inevitable mistakes.

A trained dancer for most of his adolescence, the 26-year-old Vancouver native switched artistic disciplines after spending time jamming with his musician friends. "I found out very quickly that I loved it," he recalls. "It was my favorite thing to do." Armed with a guitar and a laptop, Tarves started hashing out early songwriting attempts in GarageBand as he found his own style: "It was all about experimenting while trying to find what worked for me."

In 2022, Tarves released his indie-pop debut EP HOW DID WE GET HERE? and quickly followed it up with a sophomore in 2023 titled scaredy cat. 2024 brought in his first Canadian and international touring as well as a JUNO Award nomination. His debut full-length, motorcycle sound effects, was released in 2025. New Entertainment, produced by friend and frequent collaborator David Marinelli, was recorded entirely in the studio, live off the floor. It’s solid, tactile, nostalgic in a way that hits you right in the chest.

A true rock record, New Entertainment is asking to be played on your old record player or the tape deck of Joni, Drew’s 2001 Mazda pickup.

“Both artists are adept at encompassing poetic contradictions and double meanings in their respective solo work, so it comes as no surprise that even the song's titular question…has multiple interpretations, each more rife with possibilities than the last and set free against the expansive open plain of their voices entwined atop dreamy acoustic guitar, featherlight piano and craning pedal steel.” - Exclaim!

“Both Vancouver musicians are experts in smart indie rock that sounds extremely sweet while the lyrics cut deep. That’s true in their partnership, True Mountain Laurel, as well.”
- The Georgia Straight

Born out of late-night harmonies, shared voice memos, and a long-standing friendship rooted in mutual admiration, Haley Blais and Sam Lynch formed the supergroup True Mountain Laurel. Having already shared the album’s title track, today they are sharing another new single from their debut collection of songs, Angel So Bad

“Holy Hell” explores the stories we tell ourselves to keep believing in someone. What do we cling to when certainty disappears? The song sits in the complicated space between devotion and doubt, and makes light of the cyclical, sometimes haunting nature of hope.

“‘Holy Hell’ had to go through a bit of a metamorphosis in its initial stages before we realized we needed to stop lying to ourselves and just make a bluegrass song,” the duo explains. “At the heart of TML there’s a love of country music, and this is our homage to a genre we’ve admired for so long.”

MORE ABOUT ANGEL SO BAD + TRUE MOUNTAIN LAUREL
A tender, dust-swept exploration of all the feelings that fall through the cracks, Angel So Bad is equal parts folk reverie and country yearning, while the project pulls from their respective solo careers. Sam’s poetic introspection and Haley’s razor-sharp lyrical intimacy blend into something softer, stranger, and wholly their own.

What began as casual writing sessions in between Sam and Haley’s respective tour cycles has slowly transformed into a collaborative ritual: trading lines and melodies over coffee and recording scrappy voice note demos at the end of the day. The songs emerged not from pressure or plan but from a desire to make music the way they first fell in love with it — no clocks, no ego, just two voices in a room.

Influenced by artists like Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams, and early 2000s Canadian singer-songwriters, the project is less about genre and more about feel. Acoustic guitars, brushed drums, pedal steel, and the occasional jangly piano support lyrics that feel diaristic without being confessional: capturing the ache of growing older, the strangeness of still wanting more, and the joy of finding home in another person’s voice.

There’s a looseness to these songs that feels intentional. Where Sam’s solo work leans cinematic and atmospheric, and Haley’s leans into the clever and orchestral, here they meet in the middle: warm, minimal, and a little bit rough around the edges. Live, the project takes on an even more intimate form without setlists or rigid arrangements. Just two friends singing the truth as they feel it that night.
