Zeus, the quartet of Neil Quin, Mike O’Brien, Carlin Nicholson, and Rob Drake, returns this Fall with their fifth studio album, Lost & Found (The Say Us Archives). The project represents, in the words of the band, “an outward rebellion within their scene: the basic need to drop all egos and just make music together, regardless of the [album's] final destination or distribution”. It is the fruit born of a time when Zeus and the Toronto musical collective surrounding them were all working on their own independent projects—yet there was a deep, collective yearning to collaborate. Lost & Found (The Say Us Archives) is the result of looking back at songs written during this specific period in time that did not make the cut the first time around, but needed to be revisited.

Today, the band is sharing the first song from the album. “Lions Pride” is a song “that’s always had a special place in our hearts and is exciting for us to finally get to share it,” says O’Brien. “This collection in many ways tells the whole story of the inception of our band. Each songwriter coming from his separate corner and finding a sound together. These songs didn't end up fitting the picture that became Say Us but they serve to fill in the gaps in that time period. We hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane as much as we did.”

MORE ABOUT LOST & FOUND : THE SAY US ARCHIVES
“After crossing the 15 year mark of the release of our debut album Say Us, we started to reflect on that time,” explains O’Brien. “It was a period of transition for many of the musicians in our scene. I was on a break from my band called Paso Mino with Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas) and Carlin was also taking a breather from his band The 68s. Neil had recently taken a break from touring with The Golden Dogs and was starting to demo his own songs. We began getting together to jam and show each other songs which soon led to recording some of these ideas.

“In the beginning there was no talk of starting a band, it was just friends helping each other realize our creative visions. Many of our musical friends would show up and inevitably play on these songs and before long we had something that started to look like an album. This time period was so fruitful that there were songs that got lost in the shuffle on the way to making Say Us. We wanted to dig back into that catalogue to let those ideas see the light of day. When we started to take stock we thought there may be a small handful of tunes that we could release but we soon realized there were more than we even remembered. We uncovered long forgotten gems from that time period. Some completely finished and some waiting to be dusted off and shined up. It was an exciting and rewarding process to give this old material a new life. We also included Neil's demo of a song called ‘Kindergarten’ that made it onto Say Us because we thought it was a cool glimpse behind the creative process.”

mirador, the fourth album from Montreal pianist and composer Jean-Michel Blais, is out today. It is Blais’ first release following his critically acclaimed collaborative album with Lara Somogyi, released last year. The new record finds the Montreal artist turning his gaze onto a wide, wondrous world, exchanging contemporary minimalism for a light and generous maximalism.

In support of the album’s release, Blais has shared  a new film created with longtime collaborator and director Adrian Villagomez. Part live session, part narrative film, the piece brings the world of mirador to life through two parallel stories. As two young boys follow the logic of imagination rather than that of the adults around them, the film gradually slips between the everyday and the surreal, leaving the boundary between the two deliberately unresolved.

mirador is an odyssey that spans choirs, strings and the music of the Andes, from Spanish caves to Estonian forests and all the way back to the basement in Nicolet, Québec, where Blais first imagined adventures. As a musical kid and, even if he wasn’t fully aware of these things yet, as a queer person, with Tourette’s, Blais’s hideaway was his imaginary lookout, his “mirador,” from which he could dream the world.

“Despite everything, mirador takes shape and reaches you. Starting from a hazy dream, taking the detours in stride, improvising, falling, getting back up, and pushing on, until arriving somewhere—often where we never planned to go. That's a bit like life, too. From the child's daydream in each of us to its fulfillment, mirador is above all the result of a deeply collective effort, of which I am only the visible tip of a huge iceberg”

With more than 375 million streams globally to his name, mirador began with Blais reflecting on childhood memories of building imaginary worlds in his parents’ basement. The album’s title references those early “lookout” spaces, places of refuge, invention and possibility. Working with composer and arranger William Brittelle (LA Philharmonic, The National), he assembled a choir of 12 baroque singers and then added a string quartet of his friends. Blais also enlisted Tulio Velazco Villagra, a master of Andean instruments. Elsewhere, residencies at the Arvo Pärt Centre informed the meditative atmosphere. The result is Blais’ most adventurous and transportive work yet, an album that moves fluidly between folk traditions, contemporary composition and cinematic storytelling while holding onto a sense of intimacy throughout.

MORE ABOUT JEAN-MICHEL BLAIS
Montreal-based pianist and composer Jean-Michel Blais is signed to Arts & Crafts and Mercury KX (Decca). Since his first album, il, released in 2016 and named one of the 10 best albums of the year by Time Magazine, his music has reached an international audience and accumulated over 375 million streams.

Trained in performance at the conservatory of music, he developed an intimate and expansive musical language on his own, where the piano engages in dialogue with electronic and orchestral textures. A member of the lgbtq+ community and living with tourette syndrome, he also draws on his experience as a social worker to create profoundly human music, driven by sensitivity and emancipation.

His five albums have received critical acclaim, whether in Pitchfork, The Fader or Le Figaro. On stage, he performs solo, in ensembles or with orchestras, in iconic venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam or the Southbank Centre in London, as well as in outdoor concerts, notably in front of more than 40,000 spectators at the Montreal International Jazz festival.

A composer for film and television, he won a Cannes Soundtrack award for his score for Xavier Dolan's film Matthias & Maxime and composed the music for the Wonderfall at Moment Factory installation in Singapore's Changi airport. His music also appears in the Netflix series The Brothers Sun, advertising campaigns for Tudor and Louis Vuitton and during french figure skater Kévin Aymoz's performance at the Milano-Cortina Olympic Games.

Recently, Maya Cook shared the new single “Blueberry Stains”, her first new single since the release of her debut record Salt (2025) on Aakuluk Music. Today, the multidisciplinary artist is sharing another new track, “Cigarettes And Salt”, a song she wrote after “I lost someone I loved, but a deeply complicated love,” says Cook.

“I had this moment last summer where I was out on the land, and it was so incredibly beautiful. I was filled with so much joy and peace, and yet it also brought such deep sorrow. This track sits in that place, where the pain and beauty of living meet full circle. It comes from deeply wishing for a sense of peace for those I love, especially those who struggle to find it."

MORE ABOUT MAYA COOK + SALT
Maya Cook’s
journey into music was paved by her path as a multidisciplinary artist. As a circus performer with Artcirq, the renowned performing arts collective in Igloolik, Nunavut, Maya has spent years expressing herself with dynamic acrobatics and sharply crafted storytelling.

Raised in the Gulf Islands of the Salish Sea, Maya hails from Mennonite-Anglo-Celtic ancestry and lives in both Vancouver, BC and Igloolik, Nunavut. Maya’s artist identity is shaped by these worlds, their influence in her music both spontaneous and transformative. “Creating art, both circus and music, has been a profound way of exploring how all of my pieces are woven together, within myself and in my relationships with the land and people around me”.

Her debut album salt, recorded at Aakuluk Music Studios in Iqaluit, Nunavut, is a testament to her artistry in a different medium. Writing with "a spare, economical grace" (Richard Flohil), and the "versatility and range of a seasoned artist" (Cups N Cakes Network), Maya’s songwriting swings between pulsing energy and dreamy reflections. You will hear rhythms to move your body and a voice to quiet your mind.

salt brings together Maya’s reflective nature and her curious spirit, offering listeners a vivid sonic landscape inspired by a life in coastal BC and steeped in the Arctic’s contrasts—its beauty and challenges, warmth and cold. The album’s eight tracks each reveal a piece of her world and her heart. Themes of healing, introspection, connection, and community, run through the record. Songs like ”Metal In My Bones” channel the quiet contemplation of rainy Vancouver nights, while tracks like ”Silarjuaq” pulse with raw energy and defiance, fueled by the beauty and vibrance of the tundra. Maya’s voice, rich and emotive, soft and silky, guides listeners through her world, in dynamic conversation with rich and rhythmic instrumentation and the melodies of fiddle and saxophone.

For Maya, salt is more than an album; it’s an exploration of the balance in-between: in-between hurt and healing, strength and softness… it’s the spaces between our bodies and where sky and ocean meet.

salt was produced by Jace Lasek, the renowned producer behind acclaimed albums by Aasiva, Terry Uyarak, and The Jerry Cans. Lasek’s expertise shines through, seamlessly blending Maya’s unique voice and artistic vision with rich, atmospheric production. His ability to bring out the depth and texture in northern artists’ music makes salt a stunning addition to the legacy of projects he’s helped shape, further amplifying the soundscape of the Arctic.

Recorded under the crisp fall skies in Iqaluit, salt is a love letter to the North, to the Salish Sea, and to all the water in-between that connects them. It is an invitation to share in Maya’s vision of resilience and beauty, to close your eyes, and to feel the rhythm of the tides under your skin.
